What are Bio Threads?

Bio-Threads are used for the lifting of soft, sagging facial tissue. They are also used for skin rejuvenation and as a wrinkle treatment. Once inserted, Bio-Threads will be absorbed by the body over time, typically around 6 to 8 months. Due to increased collagen production, results can last up to 12 to 24 months. As the suture absorbs in the body, it promotes the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. Using a non-incision method via a needle or cannula, the Bio-Threads procedure is minimally invasive and generally has a fast recovery time.

How do they Work?

By stimulating the body's natural immune response, Bio-Threads promote the production of collagen, resulting in improved skin texture and rejuvenation. This can help to improve the appearance of fines lines and wrinkles, and achieve an anti-aging effect.

Once inserted, Bio-Threads will be absorbed by the body over time, typically around 6 to 8 months. The material will completely dissolve via hydrolysis, with the end products being H2O and CO2. However, due to increased collagen production, results can last up to 12 to 24 months.

What are the different types of Threads? 

Rejuvenate Bio-Threads: include small, smooth PDO Threads (e.g. Mono Threads), designed to stimulate collagen production in areas with fine lines and wrinkles.  

Volume Bio-Threads: are smooth and thick, and designed to add structure and volume to areas such as the jawline.  

Lift Bio-Threads: Barbed threads are designed to hook to the skin and lift the jowls, neck, eyebrow and nose.  

How long do results last?

Bio-Threads typically dissolve in 6 to 8 months, with results lasting up to 12 to 24 months .

For Rejuvenating Bio-Threads, results begin to be seen after roughly 6 weeks. These results usually continue to improve for up to 12 months, due to the gradual production of collagen that occurs over this time.

For Volumising and Lifting Bio-Threads, results should be evident immediately following the procedure. This effect will begin to settle and even improve overtime, as the Threads dissolve and collagen is produced.

What are the possible side effects?

Some side effects can occur, such as: bruising, swelling, headache, pain, superficial displacement and skin dimpling. These side effects tend to naturally heal over time (typically resolving within 2 weeks) or can be addressed with a secondary treatment.

In rare cases, side effects such as infection, hematoma, muscle dysfunction, skin necrosis and unilateral paresthesia can occur.

This device is prohibited to use on patients who have Diabetes with complications of Dermal necrosis.
