What is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition that causes pimples to form on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and back. Acne is caused by the secretion of oil onto the skin's surface, which clogs pores and creates bacteria. The bacteria can cause inflammation and swelling in the skin.

The most common type of acne is called "comedonal" acne. Comedonal acne occurs when blackheads and whiteheads form on the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and back. It is also known as non-inflammatory acne because it does not cause redness or swelling in the skin.

Another type of acne is called "inflammatory" or "acne vulgaris." Inflammation and redness are common signs of inflammatory acne; these symptoms occur when oil builds up in a pore and clogs it with dead skin cells.

Inflammatory acne can affect people at any age but usually starts around puberty when testosterone levels increase in males or females. Inflammatory acne may be triggered by stress or hormonal changes like pregnancy or menstruation.
